Nick Tarbitt (on sabbatical)
LL.B (Hons), Barrister
Nick was called to the Bar in 1988, is a member of the Inner
Temple and is additionally qualified to provide advice direct to
individuals and corporate clients where appropriate. He has over
20 years’ professional experience of civil litigation and negotiation,
and a similar period involved in different guises in the music
industry. Nick's particular interests within CMLG are music law,
sports law and the legalities of rapidly evolving areas such as the
internet and social media.
In the early 1990s, Nick co-founded Integrity Records, an
independent record label whose artists have enjoyed significant
critical acclaim both in the UK and abroad. Over the years, the
label has been home to both emerging UK talent and some cutting-
edge American bands. Highlights have included having 5 tracks in
one of the late John Peel’s Festive 50s on BBC Radio 1, and the
label being described on air by the great man himself as ‘majestic’.
In addition to hands-on A & R, Nick plays a significant role in
contract and licensing negotiations.
Nick's own experience as a label director has provided great
insight into the inner workings of the music industry, enabling him
to give sound legal advice which is both practical and pragmatic.
Nick previously spent several months travelling on the WTA world
tennis circuit, gaining a valuable understanding of the business
side of high value international sport, an area which is also of
particular interest to him.
He is available to accept instructions from artists, bands, writers,
labels and individuals or corporations in the wider entertainment
and sporting fields, either through traditional channels or, in
appropriate cases, directly.
